| Follow the Leader | |

Anybody can take a turn as leader. It's great for all breeds to set the pace and learn to rate. TWH Joe is followed by Akhal-Tekke X Arab Sally. Then Paso Finos Melodie and Beamer, and TWH Misty in the rear. |

The
leader gets to set the course. Cristie leads the group through cones,
changing flexion at the cross. Counter-flex into the cross, then flex
around the end cone.

Krista has picked up the pace, challenging the group to rate their horses and stay evenly spaced. |
|
It's
time for a lunch break, and Krista keeps up the pace and leads all into
a wreck by spriraling farther and farther in. All the horses are expected
to keep their noses and hooves to themselves and generally mind their
manners in close quarters.

Column
of Four

Several members of the group took part in a Cavalry Drill Team Practice at Marina Equestrian Center. In an attempt to put some of their new found knowledge to the test, this group is not yet successful building a Column of Four. They got better as the day progressed. |

Maureen executes a lovely send with Nifty. Maureen's body is clear where she wants Nifty to go and her arm points the way. If she were looking just a little farther in front of Nifty, it would be even more clear. Raised a ranch horse, this ground work is all something new to aged Nifty and she and Maureen are making great progress.. |

Zinnia
is having a hard time picking up the inside lead. Krista is using a
classical dressage exercise to help her recognize where her feet are,
and to emphasize picking them up. She keeps Zinnia moving straight forward
without letting her drop her shoulder and taps her inside front as it
has come up off the ground. Although the lead will start on the outside
hind, this foot is important to Zinnia's balance in this direction.
Picking this foot up with enthusiasm will help her understand what's
being asked of her.

Gail watches as Krista works Match in drive lines. Match has been resistant to the idea and is learning to go forward quietly. They'll work towards lowering her head a little. Gail will feel all of this good work when she gets in the saddle. |

Beamer has some opinions of his own concerning what Carrie is asking him to do: simply flex.
Beamer is given the opportunity to work it out for himself. Carrie doesn't have to struggle with him, and Beamer will feel good about having solved the problem on his own. |
