This is a homemade Cow Machine. Pretty low tech, it has several benefits over a more expensive and sophisticated machine. The biggest benefit is the control the operator has over the speed and direction of the 'cow'. With most cow machines, the cow has only two speeds and is directed by the rider. WIth this machine, the range of speeds is infinite: the operator focuses completely on the horse and is able to set up the situation for the horse to experience maximum success whatever the horse's level of expertise. For instance, if the horse is spooked by the cow, the operator can simply wiggle the plastic bag 'cow' slightly until the horse accepts it.

Misty, a TWH, tracks the cow, which is a plastic bag. Notice that she's planted her back feet, crosses over nicely with her front, and is totally focused on her cow.
