Judi's Fantastic Mounting Block Solution

Judi's not real tall, and rides real tall Shires. This mounting block is cheap and easy to build, comes apart to be used for storage, and goes together with zip ties. It's 6 milk/storage cartons, a handful of zip ties, and couple pieces of plywood. About all you'll need to build it is a drill and bit, and a way to cut the plywood to size.

It's very light, very portable, and strong enough for mounting or sitting! Once it's built, you can take it apart with a pocket knife, and put it back together with a hand more zip ties.

:: TRAILER SAFETY ALERT ::

Have you thought about your trailer tires lately?
We hadn't, and now we wish we had.
After having a blow out in December, we had another tire go flat in February. Fortunately, we were lucky and neither incident posed any grave danger. Just inconvenience.
But here's what we learned:

In spite of the fact that our tires appeared to be brand new,
they were actually NINE years old. Rubber just doesn't last that long.

Here's how to determine when your tires were manufactured:
On the side wall, you'll find DOT followed by a 4 digit number.
Ours was 3500. 35 means that they were made in the 35th week. 00 is the year 2000.
Nine years old! They should be replaced after 4-5 years no matter how much tread they have and how brand new they may look.

And while you're there, be sure it hasn't been more than a year since you had your wheel bearings checked.
And you may as well be sure the lights are all working.
For good measure, pick up your floor mats and check out ALL of the flooring.

Yeah, it's expensive. And yeah, it's a pain. But not nearly as much as a wreck!!
Jerry Doudy in Ben Lomond has a reputation for good work and reasonable prices.
Contact Webmaster if you have his phone number.

Best wishes from your webmaster!

December 7, 2008-Congratulations! to Krista and Misty (TWH-Jo Price, owner) on their impressive 4th place finish at the Women Luv Horses first Westcoast Bridleless Competition. Competition took place over 3 days and included a rail class, trail class, and free style. Misty performed with quiet grace and elegance in her first foray into the show world. Krista remarked that "Misty gave me everything I asked from her."

November 19, 2008-The first in the winter series of Corralitos Play Days saw four lesson/training sessions and 3 spectators. Drivelines was the theme of the day. Krista drove each horse, working on body position. When each horse was soft, supple and working to their physical and mental abilities, each rider played passenger. Krista continued to drive and each rider was able to feel what they should be working towards in their horse. All felt that they got an incredible amount of insight into their horses position and how they, as riders, influence that position. Corralitos Play Days will be scheduled for Wednesdays. Check the Calendar for more information and sign up with the Webmaster to be added to the mailing list for Calendar Updates. You'll want to be sure to sign up for a lesson/training time, since there are only about 6 riding hours these days.
Krista Drive Melodie Krista Drives Melodie and Syd
It takes quite a while, but Krista gets Melodie going forward quietly.
Sydney gets to feel what Melodie can feel like. She'll be able to work to duplicate this feel in her riding.

November 15-Introduction to Cattle Work was a resounding success, with all horses and riders becoming comfortable around cows and learning to stop, move, and turn the herd and move a cow away from the herd. Congratulations to all and many thanks to Bo Ramsey for the perfect beginner cows!
Unfortunately, everybody was having way too much fun to take any photos.

There are a lot of good tips and training techniques in this website. But remember that you are always the best judge of the capabilities of both you and your horse and must take responsibility for any results you and your horse find. Never try anything that you aren't confident that you and your horse can handle.

By presenting this information, no one associated with this website suggests that you should try any of these techniques. Always seek professional guidance!
