Muddy Day Projects

Maybe it hasn't been raining for a while, but it's still too muddy to ride and you and your horse are about to go nuts. Besides, you're loosing all that muscle you worked so hard to build, and you both need some exercise!!
Spend the day working on ways you and your horse can advance your riding skills in a very small space. Like your barn aisle or even your stall.

 This may just be the most important foundation information you'll ever get!
Using video and clean sand, you'll learn to analyze your own horses' gaits.

Why?

If you ride a gaited horse, you'll come to understand what gaits your horse has, how to get them, and how to improve them.

For all horses: you'll learn how to subtly and politely influence your horses direction by knowing when to cue each foot.

Your turns will become smooth and fluid. You'll improve your transitions.

You'll learn how to breeze into canter transitions on the lead you choose, every time.

You'll gain more control of your horse in all situations.

And your horse will love you for it!

Trails at Lake San Antonio

Learn to navigate trail obstacles in a real life situation.
You'll use the natural obstacles of the wonderful Lake San Antonio trails, and a few man made ones as well.

You'll also have an opportunity to work on your own specific trail-related problems.

You'll become a more confident rider as your horse becomes more confident in the great outdoors.

Fall is a beautiful time of year to be out on the trails with your favorite trail horse.

Problem Solving Clinic

Bring any and all of your issues. Nothing is too small or seemingly unimportant to be addressed, and you'd be surprised how much improvement the slightest change can make!

Trail issues: rating, spooking, leaving the herd, leading and following
Ground issues: leading, crowding, lagging, rushing
Rating: too fast, too slow, no maintenance
Arena sweet or sour, Buddy sweet or sour, troubles leaving home
Trailering issues

Why not fix it by learning to RATE your horse?
Learn NOT to micro-manage your horse and leave your hands free. And your legs will be free to cue direction, not speed.
Learn to get collected and stay that way.

Set Yourself and Your Horse Up for Successful Reining
Understand how patterning improves your horse's mind and body. Learn to fine tune your position and your horse's. In the process, you'll both learn to relax while your horse lowers his head and becomes more limber and free-moving. Slow down and separate the components and learn what is going wrong. Then correct it!!

Learn the foundations of the art of Classical Dressage.
Prepare your horse for proper, correct, and safe collection.
Do you ride dressage, or have you ever wanted to try?

for riders of all levels to participate comfortably!

The format is quite a bit different from that found at From Start to Foundation. Krista would call this clinic a series of private, individual lessons geared to the needs of each student. There will be no group riding.

Work in hand, or in the saddle. Western tack is just fine.

Krista is available for your clinic at your ranch or hers. Contact Krista for more information.

Intensives
Always wanted to be able to ride all day with your horse and learn as you go?
Spend 3 or more days at the From Start to Foundation Ranch doing nothing but playing and learning with your horse.
Start the day with horse chores and a task for the day.
Practice all day, and end the day with an evaluation of your day's work. Krista is available for support.
To increase the bonding experience with your horse, you'll be hand-watering your horse and camping on-site.
Activities will include round penning, ground work, and lots and lots of riding.

First 3 days: $225. includes lessons and camping.
Extra days: $75/day

There are a lot of good tips and training techniques in this website. But remember that you are always the best judge of the capabilities of both you and your horse and must take responsibility for any results you and your horse find.
